His unwavering passion has been the driving force behind nurturing young talent and expanding the reach of cricket across Canada. Over the years, he has held esteemed roles with Cricket Canada, including Technical Analyst, Match Manager, Match Referee, and Senior Selector.
Coach Phil’s inspiration for coaching took root early on, watching his father, Ben Navaratne, and his partner Terance Perera, coach at the renowned Terry Ben Cricket Academy at the Bloomfield Grounds. His father’s dedication left a lasting legacy Ben Navaratne was a legendary All Ceylon wicketkeeper-batsman and a celebrated member of the mighty Lions of Ceylon, Sri Lanka.
From pioneering grassroots programs in the Town of Ajax to supporting high performance squads at the national level, Coach Phil has transformed cricket from just a sport into a way of life for countless young athletes. A true advocate for all around athletic growth, he also passionately promotes Pickleball, Tennis, and Badminton staying true to his belief in developing versatile, confident players both on and off the field.
